If you’re planning a family vacation to the UK, there are certainly plenty of fun things to see and do and places to go that everybody will love. Whether you enjoy theme parks, history, films, countryside, beaches, and everything else in between, for such a relatively small island, the UK really does have it all.
5 Great Places to Visit in the UK
Wondering where are the best places to go with kids in the UK? We’ve got a list of some of the most popular family destinations.
Warner Bros. Studio
The UK is the birthplace of Harry Potter, so if your family loves the magical wizarding world, a trip to Warner Bros. Studios is one that you’ll never forget. The Harry Potter studios are located around twenty minutes by train from London Euston station; get off at Watford Junction and you can get a shuttle bus to the studios for £2.50. The tour is incredibly fun; you’ll get to see all the sets for your favorite places from the films, like Diagon Alley and the Great Hall at Hogwarts, plus see the costumes and props used by the original characters. You can explore Gringott’s Wizarding Bank and the famous Hogwarts Express and even enjoy a glass of Butterbeer.
The City of London
If you want to do all the usual tourist things as a family during your visit, you’ve got to visit the city of London. Explore all the main landmarks like Buckingham Palace, St Paul’s Cathedral, Big Ben, The Houses of Parliament, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey and many more. Plus, there are so many fun things to do with kids in London. ZSL London Zoo is a must-visit with thousands of animals to see up close, or head to SEA LIFE to explore the fascinating sea creatures. Madame Tussaud’s is a fun way to get pictures with favorite celebrities – or Marvel characters – and kids will love exploring Harrod’s the biggest toy store in the country.
Alton Towers
If your journey takes you to the north of England, Alton Towers in Staffordshire is a family theme park well worth visiting for the day. There’s something for everybody; as the UK’s favorite theme park, it packs in a huge amount of things to do, whether you want hair-raising interactive rollercoasters like Galactica, or the little ones want to play with some of their favorite characters in CBeebies Land.
Blackpool
Blackpool has long been a favorite day out for the Brits, and it’s easy to see why. Walk along the promenade and there’s so much to do, from gaming arcades to Blackpool Pleasure Beach with a selection of fun theme park rides. If you’re visiting during the autumn or winter, be sure to visit Blackpool in the evening, when the main promenade is lit up with hundreds of fun and interesting lights. The beach itself may have seen better days, but if you want somewhere to relax, head 10-15 minutes up the main road to Lytham St. Annes, which is home to a gorgeous sandy beach perfect for families.
Legoland Windsor
Back down south, Legoland Windsor is a great adventure for families and there’s much more to it than a load of Lego character. Aside from the intricate Lego figures, kids will love this fun-packed theme park with magical submarine rides, the 4D Lego Ninjago ride where little ones can be a ninja for the day, and the Star Wars Miniland Model display. If you’re visiting during the summer, head to Pirate Shores or Drench Towers for hours of waterpark fun.
If you’re visiting the UK with the kids, you certainly won’t be disappointed when it comes to things to do!
