I talk all the time about how crazy this life is. With all of the people and all of the special circumstances, this life is insane. And here is the thing, we love it. We wouldn’t have it any other way. It can be hard to create memories that your kids are going to look back on and think how great their childhood was. Everyone is busy and it is hard to plan time or find money to create special memories. Or at least that is what people think. This is how we spent our night.
This is video from Facebook Live on my personal account. The day had been crazy. I had my niece’s daughter who struggling and is not able to be with her mom, she is living with her grandmother and she needed me to babysit today. So I spent my day playing with a 1 year old who needed constant attention. I thought my girls would be thrilled but it turns out, they were both struggling with being jealous. At 13 and 7, these girls were having a hard time with a baby being in the house. And it ended with Serenity crying because the cat killed a spider.
And after a tough evening, everyone needed some fun. Everyone needed a break. It was raining. We couldn’t go out and run around. So the night ended in a dance party on the front porch. Just playing music, dancing around, and being silly. And the kids were all suddenly happy with each other, happy with life, and laughing. It was a fun moment, a moment that I know the kids will remember and think how great the night was.
The kids are not going to remember being upset about tests at school. They are not going to remember being jealous of a baby that needed my attention. They are not going to remember being devastated over a spider…. well that one they might. It is kind of crazy. The kids are going to remember the rainy night we had a dance party on the porch.
Making memories isn’t about a trip to Disney or a dream vacation. Making memories isn’t about making these huge plans. It is about these small moments when the silliness wins out over a bad day and everyone just laughs and has fun.
