We have all been there before. A DIY home improvement project that seemed simple in the beginning has now turned out to be a full-scale home emergency. Maybe it’s too much DIY Reality TV, or biting off more than we can chew, or perhaps even a combination of the two. Whatever it is, you many need to find a tradesman immediately to fix your situation and you need to find one fast. Where do you look? Where do you start? There are a few ways to get you out of your sticky section.
- Phone A Friend- yes, you heard right. Taking a cue from that millionaire TV show, phoning a friend could help you out if you are in a bind. They may have someone that they have worked with in the past that is honest, reliable and ready to take on the task at a moment’s notice. This could also work in your favor if your friend knows the local tradesman personally as well. Let’s say that you live in a smaller suburban area and there aren’t many skilled tradesmen around and demand for work is super high. If you have a friend that knows a tradesman personally, even if he or she is busy they may be willing to take on your emergency as a favor to their friend.
- Search Online-you can search online for tradesmen and local builders in your area and chances are you will be provided with a few options from your search. You can call each one on the list, explain the situation to them, and get a quote. A quote which may be astronomical if it is an emergency and you need immediate assistance. You will then have to repeat this process over and over until you find the right person. Or, you can utilize an online marketplace instead which will give you a larger group of tradesmen to choose from in your local area. You can access an online marketplace, enter in the details of the work that you need done, how quickly, a budget, and more. The marketplace will then do all the above work for you. You will be provided with options so that you can chose who is best for the task.
- Ask for Local Recommendations from Business Owners-finally if the above options don’t yield you any results you can always ask for referrals from local business owners. Most business owners have had to renovate their properties or storefronts at some point or another over the course of being in business. They may also have been in emergency situations or DIY projects that have gone wrong. They may have had to find an electrician, plumber, or other skilled tradesman in a pinch. They may have someone that they would be more than happy to recommend to you. If you do live in a smaller town or in suburbia utilizing your local business owners is an excellent way to find someone trustworthy and fast in a relatively short period of time.
