It is back to school time. Is anyone else doing a happy dance? Ok, I know that sounds harsh, but by the end of summer, the kids are not getting along; they are pretty much sick of each other. I am behind in work and things in my house has pretty much fallen apart. By the end of of summer, I am just as excited for back to school as the kids are.
While back to school brings a routine back to my days, the kids are reluctant to go back to eating school lunches. They love having the choice each day of what they are going to eat. The best way to ease their fussiness about their back to school lunches is to make it fun. Kids will love the idea of fun sandwiches but I want to also make sure the kids are eating healthy.
By using healthy ingredients I can make sandwiches that my kids love. I can make sandwiches that they will love to eat.
To make a Flower Lunch:
Start with healthy bread. It is best if kids eat a whole wheat bread but most kids will balk at the thought of it. Nature's Harvest® whole grain breads have at least 8 grams of whole grains and no artificial flavors, colors or high-fructose corn syrup.
Assemble the sandwich using what ever ingredients you want your sandwich to be made of.
Use a large circle to cut the the sandwich into a circle. I used the lid from a large pickle jar.
You will use something green for the stem. We used a pickle spear.
Use strawberries, cut into pieces, for the flower petals.
Then use grapes cut in half for the grass.
If you want to add even more fun and add a smiley face to your flower. I like using raspberries for the face.
So you aren't a Pinterest kind of mom. Maybe you have no interest at all in spending all this time making a sandwich. You can make a fun sandwich just by using some of those fun cutters. They are easy to buy and use, even the kids can cut their own sandwiches.
Do you have an artful sandwich you like to make for your kids? You can share your creation with Nature's Harvest® and you can be entered for a chance to win a Kitchen Crash from celebrity chef Kelsey Nixon.
