Taking a road trip? Looking for easy road trip games to help pass the time? Don’t sit in silence and stare at your phone, get the family playing fun road trip games.
Road trips are the best way to travel as a family. It is cheaper than taking a plane and gives you the freedom to explore the area without renting a car. However, the car ride can be boring. Use these fun road trip games to help keep everyone in the car entertained.
Fun Road Trip Games for the Whole Family
While kids will love being able to play on a phone or tablet or to watch a video, you don’t want the kids attached to a screen the entire trip. But how can you keep the kids entertained? Not just the kids, the whole family. Use these fun road trip games to help the ride go faster.
Car Colors
The car colors game is easy. You pick a certain amount of time. It can be 5 minutes, 10 minutes even up to as long as 30 minutes. Each person gets a color to look for during that time frame. Then each person guesses the number of cars in that color you will see. Whoever is closest gets a point. The first person to get to 5 points wins.
Odd or Even
Similar to the car color game, you can play a new game. In this game, you will decide on odds or even. The odd and even is guessing what the last number of the license plate will be. Everyone picks a number of how many you will see. Whoever is closest to the initial guess wins. You can choose to make this for a certain amount of time or for the whole car ride. Shorter times are easier for younger kids.
I-Spy
We have all played I-Spy and it is a fun road trip game but you have to pick something that doesn’t go out of view. Things like the sky, or things in the car, or another car that is nearby on the highway.
Find it First
When playing this fun road trip game, you decide on what item you are finding. Choose something like farms, people walking, motorcycles, Punch Buggies or whatever you decide on. The next step is choosing a number that you will find. How many you choose will be based on how long the drive is and the age of the kids playing. Whoever spots the amount first wins.
Hum-Along
Hum along is fun when you are getting tired of looking around for items. One person hums a song. The others in the car try to guess what song it is. No singing allowed. Then everyone guesses. The first person to get the song right gets to go next. The first person to get 3 correct songs wins the game.
Storytelling
Storytelling is a fun and creative way to pass the time. You start with a sentence of the story. Then the next person adds a new sentence and so on. The story will usually take some crazy twists and turns when everyone is adding a sentence.
The Grocery Store Game
This is one of my kids’ favorite games. Decide what the theme is. Sometimes we do animals or fruits or just anything you can find in a grocery store. The games goes, I went to the Grocery store and bought (Start with A ) an apple. The next person goes and says, I went to the grocery store and bought an apple and (something that begins with B). This goes on for as long as everyone can remember the list. When someone forgets something or misses something they are out. The last one to forget wins.
Some people call this the Picini Game. I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing …
Beginning Letter and End Letter
This is another fun road trip game that you pick a theme first. Pick a word, let’s say zoo. Then the next person would say something that begins with the last letter of the word. O – Orange Then the next person E- elephant. This goes on until someone can’t think of a word or until someone repeats. This goes step by step until all the players are out.
Would You Rather
This is a fun game that many people know. The person asking the question gives 2 options. Would you rather smell someone’s feet or lick their elbow? Would you rather go to the store naked or have to eat rotten eggs?
Before you head out on your road trip adventure, be sure to schedule an appointment with the service center at the dealership to make sure your car is ready for the trip.
