Winter weather happens. If you live somewhere where the winter weather is bad, you need to know how to get your car ready for the winter. Kindle Auto Plaza has some tips to help you make sure everything is ready before the bad weather hits.

Get Your Car Winter Ready

Many people travel during the winter. Even when you plan to travel at the perfect time, there is no way to control the weather. The ice and snow come when it comes. Whether you have to go to work or you are planning to visit family or friends, make sure you know these tips. It can make a big difference.

Oil Change

Be sure that you start the winter with an oil change. Oil becomes thicker as the weather turns colder. If the oil gets too thick, it can not lubricate the moving parts of the engine as it should. This can cause damage to the engine. Check the owners manual to see if there is a specific oil that should be used during the winter.

Replace Windshield Wipers

It is important to start the winter season with new windshield wipers.  Wipers are usually good for about a year. During the winter, there is freezing rain, ice, and salt is thrown up from the road. It makes it hard to see. Also, make sure to have the washer fluid filled. You can’t use plain water because it will freeze. You will need to make sure to have low freezing washer fluid in order to keep the windshield clean.

Check the Battery

It takes a stronger battery to cold start a car. If the battery is older than 3 years or it has corrosion around the terminals, it might be time to have the battery changed. Have the battery tested to make sure it holds a proper charge?

Check the Belts

It is important to check the belts that run the motor every season. Look for signs of wear and tear on the belts. Cold weather can make the belts work harder so they need to be in good working order. Look for cracks and tears in the belts. This can save you from being stranded when the belts break.

These simple tips on making sure that your car is winter weather ready will save you a lot of headache down the line. Making sure everything is in good working order and is replaced if need be will make driving in that snow and ice so much easier.
