Have you seen the My Uncle’s Gift video. It is about a boy whose Uncle shot home movies when he was a kid, on a small old fashion hand-cranked video camera. Then his uncle would develope the films in their bath tub. It is inspired a love of making videos in him that find his own dreams as he grew up.
People sometimes do not realize that small things tht they do in their lives and in the lives of the people they love can amke such a large impact. For me, it was my mom. I always wanted to be a writer. When I was a kid, I remember I wrote small poems all the time. Then one year in school, in 3rd grade, one of my poems were picked to be placed in a large book collection. I was the only kid from my school district and there were kids from across the country.
My mom worked hard to make sure that she was able to take me to the book conference. I was able to meet authors of all types and I was able to take writer workshops. I learned a lot from those workshops. And all the way, my mom sat there with me, telling me she knew I could do it. She told me my whole life that she knew I could write for a living , if that is what I wanted.
Even though I made a few detours in what I wanted to do, when my path brought me back to writing, there was my mom telling me, I always knew you could do it. And to Keep Good Going, I have always told my kids the same thing. They can do anything they want with their lives, no matter how silly it may seem or how unlikely.
