Your family BBQs are a special time in your weeks; they don’t happen very often, and it’s lovely to be able to get the whole family gathered around to enjoy a good meal together. And because of that, you want to know that your family BBQs are the best in the neighborhood, and that you’re putting your own spin on them!
But if you’re not sure where to start with a project like this, or you just want to make your BBQ get togethers a little more fun and friendly to be at, here are some ideas to get you started.
Mix Up Your Ingredients
There are some very common ingredients you might throw on the BBQ - you’ve got your tomatoes, you’ve got your steaks, and you’ve got your kebab skewers. However, if you want to put your own spin on these common recipe staples, you should think about mixing them in and out.
Think about mushrooms instead of prime cuts of meat. Think about making some sweet dessert kebabs that you can warm up a little, especially if they’re to be dipped in chocolate. And never forget about making your own BBQ sauce, if you’re looking to have a home made, warming sauce to make use of!
Decorate Your Crockery
This is something you and the kids can do together! Because a family BBQ should always be a little bit special, and being able to use specially designed crockery to eat off of and drink out of is always lovely. Plates that you’ve painted yourself, or knives and forks that have your own names engraved into them, are great to use on special occasions.
But you could go further too. For example, if you like to have summertime BBQs, why not grab some skinny tumblers to pour your juice or your milkshakes in, and draw or paint on the sides of them? Every family member could have their very own tumbler to make use of, each specially designed to their tastes, which is always a fun activity to do together.
Have Some Fun and Games!
And finally, why not make the BBQ a much bigger event than it usually is? Sure, you’re all gathered around the grill waiting for some yummy foods, but why not have some fun and games to do before and afterwards?
Soccer, tennis, or even just a game of chase could make the kids really hungry. And you can make up your own games here as well; grab some balls or bats out of the shed and invent a little competition that your kids will love to get involved with. Keep the ball off the ground for as long as possible, for example.
Putting your own spin on a good family BBQ is a great way to have fun and stick together as a family. Get everyone involved, and gather some ideas together, and then cook up some wonderful grub that you know is cooked according to your own personal tastes.
