Staying active can be hard. Especially when you are already so busy. Many people fall into the trap. I am one of them. I sit most of the day because of my job. I do try to stand and walk here and there but time is limited. I try to find fun ways to get in a little extra movement and activity.

  1. Play with the kids: It seems like common sense, but get up and play with them. Go outside and chase a ball around. Play frisbee. Take them to the Playground and play on the equipment. There are a lot of You Tube tutorials of things you can do in order to get fit while on the playground. Simple ways to be more active
  2. Use video games: I know that sounds almost counter productive. Playing video games causes most people to sit. But with the wide variety of games out now that need movement in order to make the characters go, this can be a lot of fun. There are also work out video games, where you are getting a workout like at the gym, but you are at home. This is a fun way to get a workout in without the hassle of leaving the house.
  3. Take a few extra steps: OK, so it might not be enough to call a workout, but take those steps. Instead of sending an email or calling a colleague in the same office, walk over and tell them in person. Walk over to the trash can and throw out one thing, instead of waiting until there are a few. Take the steps. Park your car at the far end of the parking lot, instead of looking for the closest space.
  4. Get dressed. Sometimes getting dressed in your workout gear, even when you don’t really want to, helps. It gets you motivated. Sometimes just putting on my sneakers makes me walk more, even if I don’t go anywhere. If I actually get into my workout shoes, I am ready to get out the door. These walking sneakers will get you motivated to get up and go. There is something about wearing the right shoes that helps. Get them easier right now. Once you get used to moving more, use that motivation to keep moving and add more and more into your routine.
