Traveling during the holidays is one of the most common times of year to travel. When you are planning your holiday travel, here are tips to make it easier.

During holiday travel, things can be so exciting. You get to see family or friends or Christmas travel can make it easy to get time away. Today we are partnering with Neuwirth Motors, in Wilmington, NC to share these holiday travel tips.

1. Avoid peak travel dates.

When the holiday travel is suring Thanksgiving, the Wednesday before is definintely a time to avoid. Traveling on Thanksgiving day is much easier with less hassle. Because fewer people want to travel on Thanksgiving day, the rates are lower if flying or using mass transit. If driving, the roads are clearer and there are fewer people driving. If you are flying home, fly any day except for Sunday and you will save money on tickets.

During the Christmas travel time, Christmas and New Year’s, thepeak travel time changes from year to year depending on the days of the week the holidays fall. If you can’t tell which days will be the highest, think long weekends, or how to maximize the travel time with fewer days off, an internet search will tell you the most expensive days.

Compare Prices

There are a lot of booking sites that make it easier to find low-cost flights, car rentals, and hotels. I like to use TripAdvisor. It is the largest travel site and it has the most information. It also pulls in prices from other booking sites, so it helps you to save more money. I get all of my hotels from TripAdvisor, no matter where we are going. When choosing your hotel, it helps to know what is most important: finding a hotel close to where you will be visiting, near transportation like airports, buses or trains, that has parking on site if you are driving, or price.

Give Yourself Extra Time

If you need to be home by a certain time, it is important to make sure you give yourself enough time. There can be winter weather issues that cause delays, there may be accidents or other issues on the roads. If you are flying, there could be issues with security. It is important to have flexibility in your plans.

Travel Early in the Day or Late in the Day

Whether you are dring or flying, it is always best to travel early in the morning and late at night. There is less congestion and delays are less likely.
