If you want your car to last as long as possible, simple car maintenance is what you need to do. These things are not hard, but it is important that they are done often to catch problems before they start. Check this list of things you should check each month, brought to you by Columbiana Chrysler Jeep Dodge.
What to Check on Your Car Each Month
I bought my first car from my brother. Before he would let me buy it, I had to know how to do certain things. It was a good little car but it was also an older model. At the time, I thought my brother nuts and just giving me a hard time because I was his baby sister and that’s what brothers do. These days, after paying for car repair bills, I know he was right. You know the old saying an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Check the oil
You should check the oil in your car at least once a month. While a car with no issues shouldn’t have a problem with leaking oil, if you check your oil at least once a month, you will know before there is an issue caused by low oil. Being low on oil can cause a lot of problems with an engine because it is what lubricates the engine’s moving parts.
Check the transmission fluid
The transmission fluid is needed to help the transmission shift gears. This can cause problems if the transmission fluid is low. By checking the fluid once a month, you will know if you are low in order to prevent it from causing problems. If the car hesitates when it shifts gears, it could be the fluid levels. If the levels are full, you will want to take the car to the dealership to have the transmission adjusted or serviced.
Check the windshield wipers.
The worst time to find out that there is an issue with the windshield wipers is when you need them the most, like a heavy rainstorm. The wipers can get damaged just from use or they can be dirty and need to be wiped off. As the wipers age, they can become dry rotted and torn.
Check the tire pressure.
Check the tire tread.
Check all the bulbs.
