When Should You Buy a Car

So you need a car. Sometimes you know when you are planning on buying a car. You can plan ahead. Sometimes you can’t wait and you need that car now. But how do you get the best price on a car no matter when you are ready to buy one? Many car dealerships, like Button Dodge, are happy to work with you on the price because they want your business. Plain and simple. Here are some additional tips to get the best price on your new car.

At the end of the day:  If you can’t wait until a sale, or until one of the other optimal times, the end of the day is a good time of day. Salesmen want to leave their job just like everyone else, but since many of them work on commission, they still want to make the sale. For a customer who is truly interested in getting a car, salesmen will help you get a good deal as quickly as possible.

At the end of the month or quarter:Car dealerships need to move a certain amount of merchandise off the lot during a certain time period, this means that many salesman have a quota to meet each month or quarter. Because of that quota, a lot of salesmen will take a hit to their commission rather than not meet their quota. Use their deadlines to your advantage.

During Tax Time: Car dealerships sell the most cars during February through May. When people get a large amount of money back, they are likely to make large purchases, like buying a new car. With many people trying to buy cars, all the dealerships are offering deeply discounted sales and they are all clamoring for your business.

In Season:Did you know that there is a season for cars? There is! Starting in late summer until early fall, the dealerships are trying to make room for their new inventory so they have to get the cars off the lot. Buyers are able to get the current year cars for a bargain because the dealers want to have room for the new models.

End of the Year: Cars lose value with each passing year. So a car that is a certain year with so many miles may be worth one price this year but next year, it will lose $1K or more next year. Dealers don’t want to have the cars sitting there losing money. They will offer you a deal to prevent that from happening.
