One of the most important things, I think, in making sure that a car is safe is to make sure the brakes are working well. I mean, that is what is going to stop the car from running into something. So brakes are pretty important. There are certain telltale signs that you need to do something about your brakes.
Squeaking or Grinding sounds: There is an ear piecing high pitched squeal that comes from the senor when your brakes need to be replaced. Once you start hearing the squeal, listen carefully for a grinding sound. If you hear a grinding sound, it means you have gone through the brake pads completely and you need to do something immediately because it will damage your rotors. Once the rotors are damaged, the repairs can be even more costly.
Pulsating: If the vehicle has anti-lock brakes and you have ever tried to stop hard and fast, like an emergency stop, then you know the feeling of when the brakes pulsate. If the brakes are doing this when you are trying to stop regular, then there is a problem with your brakes. When they vibrate like that, It is usually a sign that there is a problem with the rotors. The vibrating is because the rotors have warped. This happens after extreme, prolonged stress, like driving on steep hillside, towing heavy loads or making a lot of stops.
