If you try to decorate a cupcake that is warm (I know waiting is the hardest part!) then your frosting will melt RIGHT OFF.
First, start by making the buttercream: use an electric mixer and beat butter, icing sugar and milk on medium speed. You may need to adjust the milk depending on the frosting thickness. Add a little at a time for desired consistency.
Gradually increase blender speed to high and beat until buttercream frosting is completely smooth.
Frost each cupcake base with an offset spatula.
This frosting set is your "snow".
Dip each frosted cupcake (upside down) into bowl of sprinkles.
Color the remainder of your buttercream with Kelly green gel food coloring.
Using Wilton frosting tip #199, pipe out a tree-like figure on each cupcake.
Do not feel stressed by perfection! In fact, making these trees are so fun that you should let your kids also do this one.
Decorate your chocolate cupcake and tree with assorted-colored candies and use a yellow one on top for the star.
Enjoy your adorable Christmas tree cupcakes and happy holidays!
