Who doesn’t get peckish when they’re gaming? If we’re being honest, most of us like to snack a bit when we relax, whether that’s settling down with board games or spinning some online slots before bed. Snacking is part of the joy… until you’re dealing with sticky dice or smears all over your phone’s screen.

Those annoyances can really kill the fun of the evening. Fortunately, you don’t have to self-impose a snack ban while you’re gaming. You just have to take a careful approach to the snacks you select, so you can keep clean while filling your stomach. Let’s look at the top options.
Sliced Finger Sandwiches
Sandwiches are go-to options for more reasons we can list – but variation, ease of creation, and tastiness are high on the list. However, done wrong, a sandwich can be a killer when it comes to games. You’re just hitting “spin” on your next round of slots, enjoying the momentum of the reels, and – splat. Bacon on the screen. Nothing spoils a game faster.
But sandwiches can still stay on your gaming menu – you just have to know how to approach them right. The trick is to keep the fillings neat and not go overboard. Yes, we all love a really packed sandwich, but that’s a recipe for disaster when you’re also juggling a busy screen or a controller. Instead, opt for reasonably dry fillings, and don’t pack your sandwich too full.
That doesn’t mean it has to be boring! Smoked salmon and cream cheese is a high-luxury classic that works beautifully for gaming, and the salmon is healthy. Ham and cheese can also be great, although you should slice the cheese thinly. Avoid sandwiches that are heavy on the sauces, contain pickles (no spilled vinegar here!), or are over-stuffed and just waiting to spill out.
You should also cut them so they’re easy to hold with one hand. Triangles are the classic approach, but you can go for squares if you prefer. Cut up neatly, these are easy to eat, and won’t interrupt your slots fun. You can focus on the reels and the magic on the screen, rather than worrying about whether your pastrami is on the run. That’s the perfect way to take a good slots session up a level.
Apple And Cheese Skewers
Does anything beat the apple and cheese combo? Bursting with sourness, sweetness, and the umami flavor of cheese, this is the ultimate snack – and it’s healthy. But how do you avoid the sticky fingers that inevitably come from the apple, and sidestep the greasy cheese remnants? Skewers are your friend.
It’s like a super simple kebab. Slice your apple, cube your cheese, get skewering. You’ll soon have a screen-friendly snack to enjoy. Forget both the sticky fingers and regret that come from a big bag of chips – this is snacking done right. Plus, you can add other fruits or switch out the cheeses to keep it almost infinitely variable and ensure you never get bored. Even better, it only takes a few seconds to throw this together, leaving more time for gaming.
Crackers & Dips
Another great super-fast option, crackers and dip can be made to suit pretty much any gaming night. There are so many different kinds of both crackers and dip, it’s amazing what you can do; try crackers with garlic, rosemary, sea salt, black pepper, or even more adventurous options. Dip them in guacamole, salsa, hummus, or any of the sour-cream-based options – or even something like cottage cheese.
To set this up neatly, get a container that can hold various dips, and have a separate plate for your crackers. You can then just swipe the end of the cracker through the dip, keeping your fingers mess-free.
Tomato And Mozzarella Caprese Skewers
We’re back to the skewers – if only because they are so practical for no-mess foods – but with a totally different flavor. If you want something a bit more high-end, these are the way to go. Get some sweet, in-season baby tomatoes and cut them in half. Slice some mozzarella into chunks, and tear off some fresh basil leaves.
To construct them, pierce a tomato half, followed by the tip of the basil leaf. Next, slide the mozzarella into place, and then slip the other end of the basil leaf onto the skewer. It will wrap around the mozzarella neatly, giving you some very glamorous-looking snacks… with almost no effort at all. Fried chicken and prime rib might be considered traditional fare for a casino night, but we think this could be an even better option.

Deviled Eggs
Who doesn’t enjoy a boiled egg? These are delicious and very filling, making them an ideal game snack – but most people don’t just want to eat a whole boiled egg without any accompaniments. That’s where deviled eggs come in.
Essentially, you hard-boil an egg, then cool and peel it. Slice it in half lengthwise. Scoop out the yolk and mash it with any ingredients of your choice. Paprika is a popular option, but you can go for mayo, black pepper, cumin, cinnamon, or anything else that takes your fancy. The halved eggs are much easier to eat, and add great interest to your snack plate… plus, they look so pretty!
Cupcakes
Cupcakes. It’s almost “enough said” without any further explanation, but we’ll add a bit anyway. Cupcakes are the perfect non-sticky snack because you can bake them in neat little paper wrappers that keep all that cakey goodness off your hands. You can choose flavor. You can make at home or buy ready-made. You can have them plain or iced. You can go complex (gooey middles) or simple. You can even theme them for special occasions to add to the fun.
Who doesn’t love settling down for board game night or a mobile session with a nice plate of their favorite cakes alongside? It’s too good to say “no” to.
