I love Homemade Sticky Buns. It is one of those special treats that we love to have on special occasions. If you hate the price of store-bought sticky buns, you are going to love this easy Homemade Sticky Bun Recipe.
Homemade Sticky Buns Recipe
I think my family could eat sticky buns every day. We started using them as a special treat but I have found that no only are the store-bought ones expensive, it can be hard to find ones that everyone likes. Also, making fresh homemade sticky buns taste so much better.
How Long Do Homemade Sticky Buns Last
In general the sticky buns will last about 3 or 4 days. You do not need to refrigerate them. Storing them in the refrigerator will help them last a little longer, they will also taste a bit more stale.
How to Reheat Sticky Buns
Nothing tastes as good as a warm sticky bun straight from the oven. Since we never eat the entire batch right away, we like to reheat them when we serve them. You can reheat it in the oven but we usually pop it in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
Ingredients in Homemade Sticky Buns
- Milk
- Vanilla extract
- Butter
- All-purpose flour
- Sugar
- Salt
- Active Dry Yeast
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Brown sugar
- Light corn syrup
- Raisins or walnuts/pecans – optional
How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Rolls
In the bread maker, add the flour, white sugar, salt, milk, vanilla, butter, and yeast. Use the directions for the bread maker, and program it to dough.
As the dough is mixing with the dough hook, combine the filling: mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. Bring the butter to room temperature.
Grease the bottom and sides of a 13″x9″ baking pan.
As the dough finishes up, make the caramel sauce. Melt butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup in a small saucepan over medium heat. Heat, while stirring, until the syrup is dissolved and everything is combined. Pour the sauce into the greased pan. If adding any nuts, like chopped pecans or raisins, sprinkle it over the sauce.
When the dough cycle is competed, place the dough on a lightly floured surface. Roll it out to make a 12″ by 15″ rectangle.
Spread the softened butter across the dough, leaving a 1-inch border on all sides. Sprinkle the cinnamon and sugar mixture over the butter.
Roll up the dough like a jelly roll, on the long side. Pinch the seam closed.
Cut the dough into 1 1/2″ sections and place them in the prepared pan. They should be close together, with the spiral cut down.
Place the pan in a preheated oven at 350 degrees.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 30-35 minutes, or until buns are golden brown.
Remove from the oven. Let cool slightly, about 15 minutes. Place another baking sheet or pan over that. While firmly holding these together, flip the buns over. Be careful. The sauce is hot.
Cool a bit more, and enjoy.

I’ve used the bread machine to make dough, but never think to use the dough for sticky buns. I might have to surprise my boys one weekend with these.
