Spicy Bloody Mary Recipe
A Bloody Mary is a popular drink that has its origins in the United States. It usually consists of vodka, tomato juice, lemon and lime juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, celery salt and black pepper. Some people call it “hair of the dog” because it’s often drunk as a hangover cure or to lessen the effects of an alcohol-induced headache. There are many variations on this classic recipe though including adding jalapenos for spiciness, like this one.
What’s in a Bloody Mary?
Every individual has their own preferred ratio on Bloody Mary ingredients, but no matter your preference it is important to start with a high-quality Bloody Mary mix.
There are a lot of recipes to create your own bloody mary mixes, but I have found that the ones my local store carry taste just as good and make this recipe even easier to make.
What Does a Bloody Mary taste like
A Bloody Mary is a cocktail made with vodka, tomato juice and various other ingredients such as orange juice, celery salt or lemon. It is also known to be made using Worcestershire sauce, lime juice, and Tabasco sauce.
Can I Prep the Bloody Mary Mix in Advance?
You can make Bloody Mary Mix in advance. Up to a week before, make the mix. Wait to stir in the vodka until you’re ready to serve it. Keep it in the fridge until then.
What to use to rim a spicy Bloody Mary
A spicy Bloody Mary cocktail is a delicious way to start your day. It wakes up the senses and sets you up for an invigorating morning. A salty rim on the edge of the glass can add such flavor to this drink, too. To create that salt-rimmed effect, sprinkle kosher or other coarse-grain salt onto a plate and moisten it with fresh lime juice before pressing it against each side of the glass. This will ensure there’s plenty of salt hanging around on top when you take a sip!
There are other variations when you are ready to rim the glass. You can use a mixture of Old Bay Seasoning and kosher salt, use celery salt mixed with kosher salt or mix smoked paprika into the salt. Chili powder in the salt is a great choice to this spicy bloody mary. If course, you can skip the salt on the glass to make it a faster recipe.
We are using a mixture of salt and black pepper for our rim.
How to Make the Salt Rim:
Pour the salt, along with any additions on to a plate.
Rub the side of a lemon wedge along the lip of your glass. This helps the salt to stick to the rim.
Roll the edge of the rim in the salt to cover the it with the salt.
Can I Omit the Alcohol?
Yes, simply omit the vodka and add more tomato juice to make up for the amount of liquid in this Bloody Mary Cocktail. Make sure to add in the garnishes so that you do not miss out on any of the flavors.
How Much Does This Drink Cost to Make
This recipe, as of today, comes in at about $5.43 per 8 ounces serving. Considering it would cost double that at the bar, this is not a bad way to enjoy a cocktail. If you are making this drink using a homemade bloody mary mix, it might be cheaper, overall, but would cost more in the upfront ingredients.
All in all, it’s a pretty easy recipe that anyone can make at home. You’ll need the basics of vodka and tomato juice, plus some spices to add for flavor–celery salt, worcestershire sauce, lemon or lime wedges for garnishing. Once you’ve mixed everything together well with ice in a cocktail shaker until chilled through (or blended on high speed), strain into your favorite glassware and serve! It should be noted that when making this drink at home most people like to use whole tomatoes instead of pre-made tomato juice because they have more natural sugar content which makes them taste better. But if you’re looking to save time then just buy whatever is available near you. Make sure not to use too much ice to make the drink, otherwise it will be watered down.

Ceaser’s are better. Clamato instead of tomato juice. Use Matt and Steve’s Ceaser rimmer instead of salt. No other juices. All the rest ingredients.
