You have to build a birdhouse with this kids. This is incredibly easy to make birdhouse is perfect for keeping kids entertained. This is a fantastic Earth Day project or when the kids are stuck inside on a rainy day. Using recycled craft materials, make this fun birdhouse craft.
Build a birdhouse
With Spring coming, and in honor of Earth Day right around the corner, these birdhouses are a great way to recycle and make crafts your little ones will love. The ones we made are from recycled Lays crisps chips and a coffee can. We have a lot of finches that hang out in our yard, that will love the Lays container. The Robins, Blue Jays and Cardinals will be eyeing up the coffee can to see who can get in there first. Guess I have an excuse to drink more coffee to make some more birdhouses.
Make sure to put some air holes in the sides.
Make holes though the lid and the container. You want the lid to be able to come off, so you can put some grass, leaves and things inside to entice the birds to come in and make a home.
Thread some heavy twine or rope through holes. Even toddlers can help with this part.
Hang from a high tree. Make sure it is out of reach from cats or other predators.
You can paint the outside and decorate it however you like. My kids were actually into much of a hurry to get their bird houses hung they wanted them hung as is. It was a struggle to get this much paint on.

Such a great idea!

At first glance, I thought the painted black coffee can was a barrel. With the coffee can strung up at that heighth and with the truck, positioned just so, in the background, gives the appearance that the coffee can is much larger than it really is.
