What are Thai Drunken Noodles
Thai Drunken Noodles, also called Pad Kee Mao, is Asian fusion at its most tastiest. With Asian flavors and rice noodles, this is a dish that anyone would love. It can be spicy, by adding spicy peppers, or it can be mild for anyone like I have it here.
Do you want to try cooking your very own version of drunken noodles? What type of noodle can you use for making this Thai recipe? You can use high-quality made rice noodles, like when you’re making beef Pad See Ew. Both recipes require rice noodles. But unlike the flat and wide rice noodles of beef Pad See Ew, you need to use round and thin rice noodles for Thai Drunken. Wide rice noodles are suitable for the pan-fried, deep-fried, and stir-fried noodles.
Why are They Called Drunken Noodles
There are many theories on why it is called Drunken Noodles. There is no alcohol in these noodles. One of the theories is that when this dish is served spicy, it needs a cold drink, alcoholic, to wash it down.
I personally tried eating drunken noodles and the theories about this Thai recipe are true. Another theory about drunken noodles is that you should eat this Thai noodle recipe with a beer to cure your hangover or after a night before drinking alcohol or getting drunk in a solo drinking session or with friends at a party or special occasion.
I ate drunken noodles that a Thai friend made for me, and it was spicy. And I can truly say that you need a cold, alcoholic drink to wash the stingy spicy taste. This Thai recipe will surely shock your taste buds for those who aren’t used to spicy noodles. So, it is best to prepare a cold beverage when eating drunken noodles the first time.

What a wonderful dinner for the summer. Light but filling. So many fresh veggies now that could be added as well. Of course being inexpensive doesn’t hurt either! I haven’t made these kind of noodles at home yet, but going to try.

This dish looks very delicious! I love Thai curries and also enjoy crisp sauteed veggies, so this meal would become a quick favorite. I like that you added the lemon zest; I’m sure it adds a lot of flavor. Rice noodles are also one of my favorite types of Asian noodle types.
