How to Make Homemade Ramen Noodles in a Cup

Cook the Eggs: Boil water. Add the eggs carefully and boil for 6-7 minutes (soft-boiled egg) or 9-10 minutes (hard-boiled). Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and add to an ice water bath. This stops the cooking process.

Prepare the Ramen and Broth: Add chicken broth to a large pot and bring it to a boil. Add the ramen noodles and cook according to the package. Remove the noodles and add them into 2 bowls. Keep the broth warm.

How Long Can I Store Homemade Ramen Noodles in a Cup?

Homemade ramen noodles are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Keep the noodles and broth separate until ready to eat, then reheat them together in the microwave or on the stove.

    Tips and Tricks

Use Quality Ingredients: Opt for fresh vegetables, high-quality noodles, and homemade broth for the best flavor and nutrition.

Prep Ahead: Chop your vegetables and cook your protein ahead of time to streamline the cooking process and save time when assembling your ramen.

Balance Flavors: Taste your broth as you go and adjust the seasonings accordingly. Add a splash of soy sauce for saltiness, a squeeze of lime for acidity, or a dash of sugar to balance out the flavors.

Get Creative with Toppings: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different toppings like kimchi, corn, or even crispy fried shallots to add texture and flavor to your ramen.

Don’t Overcook the Noodles: Keep an eye on the noodles as they cook to ensure they don’t become mushy. Aim for a slightly chewy texture for the perfect ramen noodle consistency.

Garnish with Care: Take the time to garnish your ramen with fresh herbs, sliced scallions, or a drizzle of sesame oil for an extra burst of flavor and visual appeal.

    FAQs

Can I use different types of noodles instead of ramen noodles?

While traditional instant noodles are ideal for authenticity, you can certainly use other types of noodles like spaghetti or fettuccine in a pinch.
If you can not find traditional ramen or rice noodles at the grocery store you can use the cheap ramen noodles. If using those noodles, do not use the seasoning packet.
Just keep in mind that the texture and flavor may vary slightly.

Can I make a large batch of homemade ramen noodles and freeze them?

Yes, you can freeze homemade ramen noodles for later use. After cooking and draining the noodles, toss them with a bit of oil to prevent sticking, and then freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet.
Once frozen, transfer the noodles to a freezer-safe bag or container and store them for up to 3 months. To reheat, simply drop the frozen noodles directly into boiling water for a few minutes until heated through.

    What are vegetarian ramen options?

Absolutely! Simply skip the meat and use vegetable broth instead of chicken or beef broth. Load up your ramen with plenty of vegetables and tofu for a satisfying vegan or vegetarian meal.

    Ingredients

    • 2 packs instant ramen noodles
    • 4 cups chicken broth
    • 2 large eggs boiled
    • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
    • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
    • 4 green onions chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic minced
    • 2 teaspoons ginger grated
    • 4 baby bok choy
    • 1 carrot shredded (to be used as topping)
    • 1 tablespoon black sesame seeds for garnish

    Directions

    • Cook the Eggs: Bring a pot of water to a boil. Gently add the eggs and boil for 6-7 minutes for a soft-boiled consistency or 9-10 minutes for hard-boiled. Remove the eggs with a slotted spoon and immediately place them in ice-cold water to stop the cooking process. Once cooled, peel the eggs and set aside.
    • Prepare the Ramen and Broth: In a large pot, bring 4 cups of chicken broth to a boil. Add the ramen noodles (discard the flavor packets to reduce sodium intake) and cook according to the package instructions, about 3-4 minutes. Remove the noodles and divide them between two bowls, keeping the broth warm.
    • Sauté the Aromatics and Bok Choy: Heat the sesame oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute. Add the baby bok choy and sauté until the leaves wilt and the stems are tender but crisp, approximately 2-3 minutes.
    • Assemble the Bowls: Pour the hot broth over the noodles in each bowl. Divide the sautéed baby bok choy between the bowls. Cut the boiled eggs in half and place two halves in each bowl.
    • Add Toppings and Serve: Top each bowl with raw shredded carrots and sprinkle with black sesame seeds. Garnish with chopped green onions. Serve immediately, allowing each person to stir their bowl to mix the toppings with the broth and noodles.
