Thai Basil Beef | Pad Gra Prow

Thai Basil Beef is one of those things that tastes amazing. I like to order it whenever we go to a local Thai place. However, while I love it, my waistline doesn’t always like it. The original recipe is 10 Weight Watchers Points per serving and when you don’t get that many points to start with, that’s a lot to give up. That is why I decided to make a lighter version that I can feed my family and works with eating healthy.

    What is Thai Basil Beef

This is a traditional Thai recipe that is ground beef with a homemade Thai Basil Sauce. Using Thai Basil instead of regular basil, this dish has Asian flavors. In addition to the Thai basil, this recipe also features fish sauce. These flavors together create an amazingly flavorful sauce. If you want to order this on a Thai menu, you might see it called Pad Gra Prow.

Is Thai Basil the same as regular basil?

Sweet basil, which is the regular basil that people think of when they think if basil, and Thai basil are different. Thai Basil is a spicy anise flavored basil that is used in many Asian dishes. Thai basil is slightly harder basil to find than traditional basil. You can find it in local Asian or International markets.

How Many Weight Watchers Points in Thai Basil Beef

The original recipe of this Thai Beef is over 10 points, and that isn’t even the take out kind. So what I have done is recreate this delicious Pad Gra Prow that has all the same flavors, without all the points. I have made most of this recipe with ground turkey so that it is lighter but since this is a Thai Basil Beef, it has to have ground beef in it. So by adding some beef this retains the flavors while being much lighter.

By making this swap and using 90% ground beef, this recipe comes in at 4 Weight Watchers Points. You can make this a 2 point Weight Watchers meal if you remove the rice and serve this in a lettuce cup instead. This recipe makes 8 servings.
