Everyone’s had a few nights where it’s been difficult to get to sleep. Normally, they only happen every once in a while, but it could become common for some people. If you’ve struggled to get to sleep for days or weeks, things will need to change. You could need a nighttime routine that relaxes you.

You might think that’s obvious and might’ve tried a few things already, but they mightn’t have been enough. If that’s the case, don’t give up. Try adding a few other things to your bedtime routine, and you shouldn’t have a problem drifting off.

Develop A Nighttime Routine That Relaxes You: 3 Top Tips

    1. Create A Relaxing Bedroom Environment

Your bedroom naturally plays a role in how easy it is for you to fall asleep. The more relaxing your bedroom, the easier it’ll be for you. Take the time to create a relaxing bedroom environment for yourself. You’ll have to do more than just having a comfy bed, as much as that helps.

Having the lights dimmed or turned off, maintaining a comfortable room temperature, and experimenting with soothing scents all help with this. They’re all minor changes, but they should have quite an impact. If you need to light scented candles or do anything else every night to help with this, make it a part of your nighttime routine.

    2. Practice Stress Relieving Techniques

Stress is a part of everyone’s life, no matter how much they want to avoid it. With some stress relieving techniques, you can minimize how much it affects you. By implementing them into your nighttime routine, you’ll find yourself drifting off relatively easily.

There are more than a few things you can try with this, with even good night prayers playing a role. Yoga, meditation, and similar techniques are also worth considering. The more relaxed you feel, the easier it’ll be to fall asleep once you go to bed. Do them close to your bedtime, and you wouldn’t have a problem.

    3. Avoid Nicotine & Alcohol

Nicotine is known to be a stimulant and it can get in the way of you falling asleep. If you’re a smoker, it’s always worth considering quitting. At a minimum, try to avoid them in the hour or so before you go to bed. That way, you don’t have any extra stimulation getting in the way of your sleep.

Alcohol, on the other hand, could let you fall asleep faster. The problem with this is it could lead to you waking up more during the night. The quality of your sleep could be worse than it was before. By avoiding alcohol, you shouldn’t have to worry about that happening.

Develop A Nighttime Routine That Relaxes You: Wrapping Up

You shouldn’t have to settle for getting barely any sleep. With a nighttime routine that relaxes you, you’ll get more sleep than you’re used to and feel better because of it. You’ll also improve the quality of your sleep, making you feel well-rested. You’ve no excuse not to give it a try.
