These cupcakes are basically mini apple pies and perfect to serve friends and family a quick and easy dessert. This recipe has a wonderful list of ingredients that adds so much flavor to such a small dessert. Using apples in a dessert is so good because of the taste and texture it adds. Ingredients
- Cake Mix- You will need spice cake mix for this recipe.
- Eggs- Your eggs should be used at room temperature.
- Butter- Use unsalted butter to control the amount of salt in the recipe.
- Milk- You will need whole milk for this recipe.
- Powdered Sugar- This will be added to your batter.
- Vanilla- Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavoring.
- Ground Cinnamon- Cinnamon goes great in any apple recipe.
- Heavy Cream- This will help with the consistency of the recipe.
- Pie Crust- You can buy a premade crust or make your own homemade.
- Sugar- Every great dessert recipe uses sugar in the ingredients.
- Caramel- You will need a bottle of salted caramel.
- Graham Crackers- You will need to have these crushed into crumbs.
- Apples- You will need peeled and chopped Gala apples.
- Water- This will be added to ingredients to prepare.
- Cornstarch- This will thicken the consistency of the apple filling.
How to Make Apple Pie Cupcakes
Cupcake Directions:
Set the oven to 350 degrees.
Add the cake mix, eggs, milk, and butter into a standing mixer and mix to combine.
Add the batter into cupcake liners, filling them up about 3/4 of the way full.
Place the batter into the oven for 21 minutes to bake.
Begin making the apple filling while the cupcakes are baking.
Apple Pie Filling Directions:
Add the butter into a medium pot and mix in the apples, sugar, and cinnamon.
Pour in 1 cup of water and allow the ingredients to cook until it reaches a low simmer.
Add the rest of the water into a small bowl and whisk in some cornstarch until smooth.
Combine the butter and cornstarch mixture and allow the ingredients to cook for another 1-2 minutes until it is thickened.
Allow the ingredients to cool completely.
Frosting Directions:
Add all the frosting ingredients into a standing mixer and combine on medium speed.
Fully combine until it forms stiff peaks in the frosting and then, add into a piping bag.
Cinnamon Sugar Pie crust
Set the oven to 350 degrees.
Add the cinnamon and sugar together and mix to combine.
Begin to unroll your premade crust and put it onto a cookie sheet.
Add the cinnamon-sugar mixture over top of the pie crust and sprinkle all around.
Put into the oven to bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the crust becomes a light brown.
Let the crust cool down to room temperature.
When cooled, cut the crust into triangle shapes.
Decorating Directions:
Remove the cupcakes from the pan and begin decorating.
Pipe the frosting onto the finished cupcakes. (Keep the frosting tip flat so the apple filling can sit neatly on the frosting.)
Add about 1 tablespoon of the filling onto the cupcakes.
Next, add a bit of the salted caramel over top.
Then, add a piece of the pie crust to the back of the cupcake.

Best Apple Pie Cupcakes
Ingredients
- 1 box of spice cake mix
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 C unsalted butter softened
- 1 C whole milk
Cinnamon Frosting ingredients:
- 1 C unsalted butter softened
- 2 1/2 C powder sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 3-5 TBSP heavy whipping cream
- 1 large piping bag fitted with a star tip
Cinnamon Sugar Pie crust Ingredients
- 1 premade pie crust unrolled
- 1/4 C unsalted sweet cream butter melted
- 1/2 C sugar
- 3 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1 cookie sheet fitted with parchment paper
Decoration ingredients:
- 1 squeeze bottle of salted caramel
- 1/4 C graham cracker crumbs
Directions
Cupcake Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Using a standing mixer, combine the cake mix, eggs, milk, and butter, and mix until combined
- Scoop cupcake batter into the liners, filling 3/4 way full
- Bake in the oven for 21 minutes.
- While the cupcakes are baking, make the apple pie filling
Apple Pie topping ingredients:
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 6 cups peeled and chopped gala apples
- 1/2 C sugar
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 C water
- 2 tsp cornstarch
Directions:
- Using a medium pot, melt the butter
- Stir in the apples, sugar, and cinnamon.
- Mix in 1 C of water until combined and bring to a low simmer
- In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 C of water with the cornstarch, and whisk lightly until smooth.
- Add the cornstarch mixture to the apples and cook 1-2 minutes more, until the mixture has thickened.
- Let cool completely
Frosting Directions:
- Using a stand mixer, combine all ingredients and mix on medium speed.
- Mix until you see stiffed peaks in your frosting and scoop into a piping bag
Cinnamon Sugar Pie crust
- Preheat oven to 350
- Mix the cinnamon and sugar together
- Unroll the pie crust and place it onto the cookie sheet
- Brush the melted butter onto the top of the pie crust
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture onto the pie crust
- Place into the oven for about 10-15 minutes or until lightly golden brown
- Allow cooling to room temperature
- Cut pie crust into triangles
Decorating Directions:
- Using the frosting, pipe the frosting onto the cupcakes, making sure to keep the tip of the frosting flat so that the apple pie filling can sit on the frosting
- Scoop about 1tbsp of the apple pie filling onto the top of the cupcakes
- Drizzle the salted caramel onto the top of the cupcakes
- Place a Pie crust into the back of the cupcake
- Sprinkle some graham cracker crumbs onto the top of the cupcakes
