Ingredients in Cooked Lentils
- dried green, brown, or French lentils
- water
- bay leaf
- garlic clove or other seasoning you like
- salt
Other Things You Need
- Measuring cups
- Strainer or colander
- Small saucepan
How to Cooke Lentils
Put the lentils in a strainer. Rinse and inspect the lentils. Remove any lentils, rocks and other items that should not be there. Rinse well.
Put the lentils in a pot on the stove and then add the water and seasoning. Do not salt the lentils yet.
Bring the water to a rapid boil. Reduce the heat to medium low or low to simmer the lentils for 20 to 30 minutes. Add enough water to keep the lentils just barely covered.
Once the lentils are tender, salt the lentils to taste. You can also add olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar or other fresh herbs.
Use the lentils as is, add to soups, salads or other recipes.
