What is the difference between fajitas and tacos?
Fajitas are usually made using grilled meats and have things like cooked veggies, like onions and peppers. Tacos are usually served with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and other raw veggies.
What’s healthier tacos or fajitas?
Tacos and fajitas are both essentially healthy. Beef will have more fat and calories than chicken will, so if you are looking for something lower in calories and points, you want to make chicken tacos or chicken fajitas. Besides that, both meals are about equal in which one is healthier.
Do you eat fajitas like tacos?
There is no right or wrong way to eat fajitas. Some people prefer to eat them like tacos, while others simply pile all of the ingredients onto a plate and enjoy. If you want to eat your fajitas like tacos, simply fill a soft tortilla with your desired amount of meat and vegetables, and enjoy!
Do all fajitas come with tortillas?
Most of the time, if you order fajitas at a restaurant they will come with flour tortillas. I am serving my chicken fajita wraps with lettuce because it makes them lower in points and also keeps them gluten-free.
If you are ordering out, and you are not sure if the fajitas come with tortillas, I recommend asking the server to make sure.

What is the healthiest Mexican food to eat?
Some of the healthier Mexican food options include tacos, enchiladas, tostadas, burritos, and soups. These dishes are typically made with leaner meats, lower fats, and plenty of veggies. When ordering out, be sure to ask about healthy options, such as grilled chicken instead of fried chicken, and whole wheat tortillas.
My favorite low calorie, low fat, and low point options for eating Mexican food Chicken Enchiladas, Barbacoa Tacos, Blackened Fish Tacos, Chicken Enchilada Casserole, Sopes, and of course The Best Homemade Guacamole Recipe
What is the difference between an enchilada and a fajita?
Enchiladas are made with corn tortillas, while fajitas are traditionally made with flour tortillas. Next, Enchiladas are usually rolled and filled, while fajitas are more like tacos, with the fillings placed on top of the tortilla. Enchiladas are often covered in sauce, while fajitas are not.
How much is in a fajita seasoning packet?
A fajita seasoning packet usually contains about 2 tablespoons of seasoning. For this recipe, you will need a total of 4 tablespoons that are divided between the fajitas and the sauce. If you choose to use store-bought seasoning instead of using my homemade fajita seasoning mix recipe, you will need 2 packets.
What toppings go on fajitas?
The best thing about chicken fajitas, or just fajitas in general, is that they are perfect with nothing extra added to them or you can go way out in what you add to them. You can add things like slices of avocado, sprinkled with lime juice to prevent browning, or make homemade guacamole. Shredded cheese is a popular topping as well as salsa, pico de Gallo, and sour cream. Slices of jalapeno will add some heat and flavor to the fajitas too. My favorite topping is this easy to make cilantro lime sauce.
What to Serve with Chicken Fajita Wraps
There are so many options when it comes to what to serve with chicken fajitas. Serve them with a side of chips and salsa or guacamole. I like to keep it simple and serve them with rice, black beans, and a side salad. For a heartier meal, add some rice and homemade refried beans to the mix. You could also serve them with quinoa, roasted potatoes, or sweet potato fries.
What is the best cheese to use on chicken fajitas wraps?
Cheese is a very popular topping for chicken fajitas. Sometimes I add it, sometimes I do not. If you want to add cheese to this wrap, I would recommend using a grated cheese like shredded cheddar cheese or Monterey jack. I also love to use pepper jack because I like the kick. If you are trying to keep this low in points, remember to use fat-free cheese or low-fat cheese.
You want to avoid using strongly flavored cheese because it can overwhelm the flavor of the chicken and veggies.
Is Cajun seasoning the same as fajita?
Cajun seasoning and fajita seasoning are similar, but not the same. Both seasonings include paprika, cumin, garlic powder, and chili powder, but Cajun seasoning also includes salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Fajita seasoning is typically milder than Cajun seasoning.
Can I use beef taco seasoning for chicken?
I use the same seasoning on my beef tacos as I use on my chicken tacos.
What kind of onion do you use for fajitas?
I am using red onions in the fajitas. I love the contrast of colors and flavors that red onions give. However, you can also use yellow onions. Yellow onions offer more sweetness than red onions. If you want to use white onions, that is an option as well. They are the mildest of all the onions and will not add any flavor to your fajitas.
Do you slice chicken for fajitas?
I like using rotisserie chicken for making these fajitas. This is a huge time saver. If you are cooking the chicken breast from scratch, you can bake or grill the chicken whole. If you are cooking the chicken in a skillet, you will want to cut the chicken into slices so that it is easier to cook in the skillet.
Can I use rotisserie chicken for chicken fajitas wraps?
I am using rotisserie chicken. It saves so much time. You can use chicken breast or chicken thighs that you bake or grill at home. Cooking the chicken in the slow cooker to make crockpot chicken fajitas is also an option. Once cooked, you can slice the chicken or shred it, whichever version you prefer.
What other vegetables can I use?
Bell peppers and onions are the most used vegetables when making fajitas, you can add in others. I love to add mushrooms, zucchini, and corn to the mix. It is a way to use what veggies we have on hand and the kids absolutely love the fajitas. This lets me add in more vegetables and the kids do not even notice.
Can I use other meats?
You can absolutely use other meats! I am sure you have heard of steak fajitas, but pork, shrimp, and even tofu would be delicious in these wraps. If you are using different meat, simply cook it until it is done.
What lettuce is best for fajita wraps?
I like to use romaine lettuce for making these wraps. The leaves are the perfect size for filling and it wraps around the filling almost automatically. You can also use butter lettuce or bib lettuce. If you are using larger lettuce, such as iceberg, I recommend chopping it into smaller pieces so it is easier to work with.
You can use other things too. I have also used radicchio, cabbage, and even spinach leaves. If you are using a hardier green, I recommend chopping it into smaller pieces so it is easier to work with.
Do you use flour or corn tortillas for fajitas?
Fajitas are normally served with flour tortillas. Flour tortillas are soft, and they have a tendency to be larger than corn tortillas. They’re also more flexible, which makes them ideal for wrapping around fillings.
How do you prepare tortillas for fajitas?
Typically, tortillas are warmed before they are used for fajitas. This not only makes them more pliable but also brings out their flavor. One popular way to warm tortillas is to place them on a hot griddle or skillet for about 10 seconds per side.
The tortillas can also be warmed in the oven. To warm tortillas in the oven, preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Stack the tortillas on a baking sheet and place them in the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes or until they are warmed through.
Lastly, the tortillas can be warmed in the microwave. To warm tortillas in the microwave, stack them on a plate and cover them with a damp paper towel. Microwave for about 30 seconds or until they are warmed through.
How long will they last?
Cooked chicken fajitas will last 3-4 days in the fridge or 2-3 months in the freezer. If you are using a rotisserie chicken, it will last 3-4 days in the fridge.
How to store
To store, place the chicken fajitas in an airtight container and place in the fridge for 3-4 days or freezer for 2-3 months.
For best results, do not store the chicken and veggies in tortillas or lettuce wraps. Make the wrap when you are ready to serve. Storing the filling inside of the wrap, no matter what kind of wrap you choose will leave a soggy mess that will not taste good.
How to reheat
To reheat, you can use the microwave or stovetop. If using the stovetop, add a little chicken broth to the pan to keep the chicken moist. Reheat until the chicken is cooked through.
Can I make this ahead of time?
You can absolutely make this ahead of time! I love to meal prep these on Sundays. I will make a big batch and we have them throughout the week for lunch or dinner. To do this, simply cook the chicken and vegetables. Once they are cooled, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. When you are ready to eat, simply reheat and enjoy.
