This easy peach jello salad has a buttery pretzel crust, a smooth cream cheese layer, and a sweet peach gelatin topping. It is a fun peach pretzel dessert for picnics, potlucks, holidays, and family gatherings.

If you love strawberry pretzel salad, this peach version is a great change. I usually make strawberry jello pretzel salad, but one day my strawberries had gone bad right before a picnic. I had peaches on hand, so I put together this peach jello pretzel salad instead. Everyone loved it, and it quickly became one of my favorite peach jello recipes.
The creamy middle layer makes this more than plain gelatin. It is a chilled peach jello dessert with plenty of texture, and the salty pretzels balance the sweetness perfectly!
Why You’ll Love This Peach Jello Salad
- The pretzel crust is buttery, crunchy, and lightly sweet.
- The cream cheese layer makes the dessert smooth and creamy.
- Fresh or canned peaches work well in the gelatin topping.
- You can prepare it the day before serving.
- It is easy to cut into squares for parties and picnics.
Is Peach Jello Salad a Dessert?
Even though it has the word “salad” in the name, I consider this a dessert. A peach congealed salad can be served as a side dish, and some families do serve jello salads with the meal. For me, the pretzel crust, cream cheese filling, and sweet peaches make it a peach pretzel dessert.
This recipe is also sometimes called a peach pretzel salad, peach pretzel jello salad, or a pretzel peach dessert. Whatever name you use, it’s a sweet layered treat that belongs on the dessert table!
Fresh or Canned Peaches?
You can use either fresh or canned peaches for this peach jello recipe.
Fresh peaches give the salad a bright, fresh flavor. Choose peaches that are ripe but still firm so they hold their shape in the gelatin. Peel and dice them before adding them to the peach Jell-O.
Canned peaches are convenient and work just as well. Drain them very well before dicing. If the peaches have too much liquid, the gelatin may not set properly. Canned peaches are also a good choice when peaches aren’t in season.
Ingredients

Pretzel Crust
- Crushed pretzels
- Butter
- Sugar
Cream Cheese Filling
- Cream cheese
- White sugar
- Whipped topping, such as Cool Whip
Peach Topping
- Peach-flavored Jell-O
- Boiling water
- Fresh or canned peaches
You can use small salted pretzels, pretzel twists, or pretzel sticks for the crust. Snyder’s, Rold Gold, and store-brand pretzels all work well. Crush them into small pieces, but don’t turn them into a fine powder. A few larger crumbs give the crust a better texture.
How to Make Peach Pretzel Salad
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Add the crushed pretzels, sugar, and melted butter to a small bowl. Stir until the pretzels are evenly coated.

Press the mixture firmly into the bottom of a 9 x 13-inch baking dish. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the crust is lightly toasted.
Set the crust aside and let it cool completely. This step matters. If the crust is warm, the cream cheese layer can soften and become difficult to spread.

In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar until smooth.

Fold in the whipped topping until the filling is well combined. Spread it over the cooled pretzel crust, taking the cream cheese mixture all the way to the edges of the pan. This helps keep the gelatin from soaking into the crust.
Refrigerate the dish for about 30 minutes while you prepare the peach layer.

In a clean bowl, stir the peach gelatin and boiling water together until the gelatin dissolves.

Add the diced peaches. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for 15 to 30 minutes. The gelatin should be cool and slightly thickened, but not firm. If it is still warm and completely liquid, it can melt the cream cheese layer.
Pour the peach mixture over the cream cheese layer. Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 3 to 4 hours, or leave it in the refrigerator overnight.
Cut into squares and serve cold.

Tips for the Best Peach Jell-O Salad
Let every layer cool before adding the next one. A warm pretzel crust can soften the filling, and warm gelatin can create broken or messy layers.
The cream cheese should be softened before mixing. Cold cream cheese can leave small lumps in the filling.
Press the pretzel crust firmly into the pan, especially around the edges. This gives you neat slices that hold together when served.
Drain canned peaches well. This is especially important when making peach jello with canned peaches. Extra liquid can affect the texture of the topping.
Don’t pour the gelatin over the filling while it’s hot. Wait until it has cooled and started to thicken slightly.
For individual servings, divide the crust, cream cheese mixture, and peach topping between small clear cups. This makes adorable portions for showers, birthday parties, and buffets. Press a little crust into the bottom of each cup, then add the cream cheese layer and peach gelatin. Chill until set.

What If the Jello Layer Doesn’t Set?
If the peach gelatin is still soft after several hours, give it more time in the refrigerator. It can take longer if the pan is full or the refrigerator is crowded.
If it remains liquid, the gelatin may not have fully dissolved, or too much liquid may have been added. You can carefully scrape the peach layer into a bowl, gently warm it, and stir in a small amount of dissolved gelatin. Let it cool before pouring it back over the cream cheese layer.
Don’t put the salad in the freezer to make it set faster. Freezing can change the texture of both the gelatin and the cream cheese layer.
Can You Freeze a Jello Salad?
Technically, you can freeze a jello salad, but I don’t recommend it. The gelatin can become watery or rubbery after thawing, and the cream cheese layer may lose its smooth texture.
If you need to freeze it, cover the dish tightly and freeze it for up to one month. Thaw it in the refrigerator, never on the counter, and expect the texture to be a little different. The best option is to make this peach jello salad fresh and keep it chilled.
How Long Does Peach Pretzel Salad Take to Set?
The peach gelatin layer usually needs 3 to 4 hours to set completely. I prefer making the salad the night before serving it. An overnight chill gives the layers plenty of time to firm up and makes the squares easier to cut.
Can You Make This Peach Jello Dessert Ahead?
Yes! This is one of the best things about a peach pretzel salad recipe. Make it at least half a day in advance, cover it, and store it in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve it.
The salad keeps for about 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator. Store it tightly covered, and keep it chilled when serving at a picnic or party. If it will sit out for more than a short time, place the serving dish over ice or return it to the refrigerator between servings.

Peach Jello Salad Variations
This recipe uses peach gelatin, but you can try other flavors too. Orange gelatin pairs well with peaches, and cherry gelatin gives the dessert a pretty pink color. For a strawberry peach jello version, use strawberry gelatin with diced peaches, or combine strawberries and peaches in the topping.
You can also add chopped pecans to the pretzel crust or sprinkle a few over the cream cheese layer. For a softer topping, serve each slice with extra whipped cream.
Whether you call it a peach pretzel salad recipe or simply a recipe for peach pretzel salad, this chilled dessert is easy to prepare and always gets plenty of attention at the table.
