You can use your favorite recipe so this might be the perfect time to dig out grandma’s old recipe! You can also use a cake mix. If making chocolate cupcakes from scratch, I recommend using a good quality cocoa powder.
Make the cupcake batter and bake in pretty cupcake liners that will complement the Christmas Tree Cupcakes. Place the liners in the cupcake pans and bake according to the recipe. Place the baked cupcakes on a cooling rack or baking sheet.
Before you get started, ensure that your cupcakes are cool and removed from the cupcake tin before decorating.
How to store Christmas Tree Cupcakes
Once you have made the cupcakes, you might need to store the cupcakes until the next day or you have leftovers. The cupcakes can be stored at room temperature. You do want to make sure that the cupcakes are stored in an airtight container. I like to use a cupcake holder to keep the Christmas Tree Cupcakes.

How long do cupcakes last?
Chocolate cupcakes will usually last for about 4 to 5 days. The cupcakes will last the longest if they are stored properly.
If you try to decorate a cupcake that is warm (I know waiting is the hardest part!) then your frosting will melt RIGHT OFF.
First, start by making the buttercream: using an electric mixer and a large bowl, or a stand mixer, cream butter, icing sugar and milk on medium speed. You may need to adjust the milk depending on the frosting thickness. Add a little at a time for desired consistency.
Gradually increase blender speed to high and beat until buttercream frosting is completely smooth.
Frost each cake base with an offset spatula.
This frosting set is your “snow”.
Dip each frosted cupcake (upside down) into bowl of sprinkles.
Color the remainder of your buttercream with Kelly green food coloring.
Using Wilton frosting tip #199, and a piping bag, pipe out a tree-like figure on each cupcake.
Do not feel stressed by perfection! In fact, making these trees are so fun that you should let your kids also do this one.
Decorate your chocolate cupcake and tree with assorted-colored candies and use a yellow one on top for the star.
Enjoy your adorable Christmas tree cupcakes and happy holidays!
The holiday season is so full of dessert fun and your Christmas cupcakes should not be the only thing you dive into this season!

Variation to Christmas Tree Cupcakes
There are a few ways that you can change up these cupcakes. You can add extract, like mint to the cupcakes or to the frosting. Another idea is to use different designs or sprinkles to make the Christmas trees. You can also use cake shimmer on the trees or on the snow.
