This is my recipe for Homemade BBQ Sauce! It’s so delicious and easy to make. Making your own bbq sauce means you can have complete control over the ingredients, which will allow you to customize it to fit your taste or dietary needs. This recipe goes great with chicken or pork, but it also tastes good on a sandwich too! I hope this recipe makes your mouth water.
How to Make Homemade Barbeque Sauce
I am going to share my recipe for homemade BBQ sauce that I make all the time. It is super easy and tastes amazing! You can use it on anything from your favorite chicken dish, to some vegetarian skewers with cornbread. The possibilities are endless!
I always prefer homemade whenever possible. I used to say I didn’t even like BBQ sauce because all I had ever had was store bought bottled stuff. After hubby made his own the first time for me, I was hooked and before I knew it, I have my own sauce recipe. After a few tweaks, everyone in the house loves it.

How to Store Homemade BBQ Sauce
When you make this sauce, chances are, you are making more than you need at that moment. That means you will want to store it in the refrigerator. You will want to keep it in an airtight container. I like to store mine in a mason jar. You can also reuse a glass bottle, like the kind that store-bought comes in.
Can I Freeze It
Some people do not realize that you can freeze barbecue sauce. Depending on how you tend to use it, you can store it in different ways. If you tend to use it as a large amount, say to glaze pork chops or chicken, you can keep it in an airtight bowl or freezer bag. You can also put in an ice cube tray. This lets you take small amounts of barbecue sauce as you need it. Once the ice cubes are frozen, move them to a freezer bag and then you can take a cube out as needed.
How Long Does it Last?
When you store this in the refrigerator it will last for about 2 weeks. If you keep it in the freezer, it will last for about 3 months.
How to Thicken Homemade BBQ Sauce
Thin BBQ sauce is not good. It runs off the meat or sandwich and makes a runny mess. You want it to be thick and delicious and stay in place, for the most part. So if your sauce is too thin, there are a few ways to thicken it. You can continue to cook it until it has cooked won further and that will cause it to thicken. You can also make cornstarch or flour slurry and add that into the pot. As it cooks this will cause it to thicken as well. You can also add fats to the sauce to help it thicken up. I tend to use butter. It creates a creamier version.
Ways to Use
Some people add BBQ sauce to their chicken and pork. It can be used on ribs and chops. There are many ways to use it. Some of my favorite recipes using Barbecue sauce are:

How Many Weight Watchers Points in BBQ Sauce
The problem with this kind of condiment, is that it is sweet. Because it is sweet, it can be a lot of points. This recipe makes 18 servings and if you make it as is, it comes in at 2 points per serving.
If you wanted to make it lighter, you can replace the ketchup with a sugar free ketchup and use a brown sugar substitute, like Sukrin Gold, the recipe will come down to 1 point per serving. This can still be a lot if you are using more than a few tablespoons.
If that is still too much, you can also sub out the honey for sugar free maple syrup. It will change the flavor slightly, but in a pinch, for something lower in points, it will work. If you swap the honey out, along with the other changes, the recipes come down to 0 points per servings.
