    Moonpie pie witch hat cookies

Trick or treat! These spooky witch hat cookies are the perfect sweet snack for Halloween or your Halloween party.

They’re made from delicious moonpies, so you know they’ll be good. And what could be more fun than a witch hat made out of an ice cream cone?Add some chocolate and candy to really make them special – your friends and family will love them!

    What makes these cookies special?

Besides the fact that these are cookies that look like Witch Hats, these cookies remind me of pinata cupcakes, in cookie form. Once you add the colorful candies to the ice cream cone, you are adding the ice cream cone on top of the Moonpie. This hides the candies until the kids remove the ice cream cone.

    What are MoonPies

MoonPies are a classic American treat that have been around since 1917. They’re made with two graham cracker cookies, filled with marshmallow creme or flavored filling, and then dipped in chocolate.

MoonPies come in a variety of flavors, but the original is still the best: chocolate with a vanilla center.

What kind of chocolate should I use

I’m using chocolate chips as the melting chocolate or this recipes. I prefer to use semi sweet chocolate chips. I like semi sweet because it’s not as sweet as milk chocolate, but it still has that nice chocolate flavor. Milk chocolate chips are an option, but they are much sweeter. You could also use white chocolate chips or even dark chocolate if you wanted a richer flavor.

I have also melted and used Hershey’s Kisses in a pinch. They melt well and have a unique taste. The chocolate kisses come in different flavors, so that is a fun twist as well.

Lastly, you can use white chocolate chips or white chocolate melts. Then you can add gel food coloring to create a completely different look all together. I would personally go towards the yellow, orange, green and purple to make Hocus Pocus Halloween Witch Hat Cookies.

Can I use a different ice cream cone?

I would recommend that you only use use the sugar cones. Sugar cones are the perfect texture and shape, coming to a point just like a witch’s hat.

Can I Use a different cookie

The Moonpie is a classic cookie, but if you wanted to use a different cookie, I think graham crackers would work well. If you want to be traditional, then Oreo cookies or another chocolate cookie are a good choice. I also think almost any round cookie would work.

What kind of M&Ms are best for Witch Hat Treat

You want to use Halloween M&Ms. This brings in that fun Halloween color. I like to use the small mini M&Ms. I think they fit on the witch’s hat cookies. If you can not find the mini or you can not find the Halloween M&Ms, you can use the other ones. If you are using regular M&Ms, you want to grab the brightly colored candies rather than the brown ones. The brightly colored candies make these Hocus Pocus Witch Hats. Which are perfect for tying into the Hocus Pocus Cookies or Hocus Pocus punch drink for a Hocus Pocus Halloween party.

Do I have to use candy?

Nope! You could leave the cookies plain, or just add some Halloween sprinkles. You can add something different inside of the ice cream cone, like a different candy or you can add something nonedible but that won’t ruin the cookies.

    More Variation Ideas

I have given a lot of ways to change up these Witch Hat Cookies. A few other ideas:

Instead of coating the ice cream cone in chocolate, you can use frosting. When we made the Christmas Tree Treats we covered the ice cream cones with frosting. It tastes great and is fun to make. It is a bit messier than this recipe but who needs neat. I would use a chocolate frosting.

Peanut Butter Cookies. I mentioned using different cookies to make the hats, and one idea is to make peanut butter cookies. Then you can cover the cookies with chocolate.

Add sanding sugar. You can decorate the ice cream cone using sanding sugar. I love making different colors of sanding sugar, so if I were to decorate it like this, I would use different shades of the Hocus Pocus colors.

How to Store Leftover Witch Hat Cookies

After the fun treat is made, you want to store them in an airtight container. I like to wrap mine in plastic wrap or foil. When the kids get their Witch Hat Halloween treat, they can open it to see what it looks like. Another idea is to place the witch hat cookies in Halloween treat bag. Keep them at room temperature. The refrigerator isn’t needed.
